Happy Halloween everyone! More costume pictures up on Flickr.
Very rainy and windy today in Seattle. Muriel and I skipped out on the big kids’ soccer games today. They came back muddy and soaked. Glad to have stayed inside, warm and cozy. We had tea, and then snapped a few photos.
Rowan and his good friend J at Carkeek Park a few weeks back.
For those in Seattle-do you know about the Monroe swifts? You know, swifts, those birds that love chimneys and fly in big flocks? I wish I had heard about this earlier, we missed the big gathering at the school, which was hosted on Saturday. I’ll have to look into whether or not we can go see the swifts at other times, as I’m sure the kids would love it. Ever since a visit to my parent’s house in Bend last spring, they have been into bird watching. Especially Rowan, but his enthusiasm is infections, and the girls enjoy it a lot too. We set up a couple of bird feeders in our front yard, hoping to get a few interesting birds, and have ended up with birds almost always at those feeders. Sparrows, finches, chickadees, juncos, woodpeckers, bushtits, stellars jays, and even a cooper’s hawk (who comes by fairly regularly)–it’s been fun.
This evening we did not have any soccer, any scouts, any swimming, any dance, any anything. A small miracle! So after dinner Niamh and I headed to Discovery Park to have some fun with my camera, a garage sale quilt, thrift store dress, and one of my Grandmother Alice’s old books. Good times. Seattle in the fall just can’t be beat.
